Is it your job to deal with your offices’ used ink cartridges? Are you unsure what to do with this seemingly useless waste product? Do you want to be environmentally friendly while saving money as well? If so, read on to learn what to do with used ink cartridges!

The main thing to remember is Never Throw Them Away. Ever. There is always a better option than putting them in a landfill. Doing so hurts the environment, but just as importantly, it will hurt your bottom line too. There are ways to make money with used ink cartridges.

Just spend a bit of time researching various ink cartridge recycling solutions and you will be rewarding later. Many stores offer incentive programs. For example, Staples will give store credit in return for ink cartridges of any brand. Other large retail stores and smaller office supply stores have similar programs. It pays to invest some effort into finding the best program in your area.

Of course, if the potential store credit is not important to you, there is another more charitable option. Many schools have ink cartridge collections to help pay for supplies for their students. If you donate your cartridges to schools, you will essentially be paying for new books, paper and other much needed essentials!

When you are refilling ink, there are several points you must keep in mind in order to ensure that you don’t waste your expensive new cartridges. You will need to refill your ink cartridges right after they run out so that they don’t dry out and become ruined. If you aren’t careful the sponge tips of the ink cartridges will harden and block the new ink from being used by the printer. You will also need to clean the ink head periodically to make absolutely sure that it doesn’t block out the new ink.

You will need to learn how to purge your ink cartridges. You can learn how to do this by searching the internet for your specific printer. Purging the ink cartridges is just as important as cleaning them to make sure you can refill the cartridges the maximum number of times. You will also need to check the pressure with a squeeze-cartridge every time you refill your ink levels. If the pressure is off, you will need to adjust it so that you can continue using your cartridges. It is important that you keep these tips in mind so your cartridges can last the longest time possible.

Many people would like to do some good for the earth and for their wallets at the same time. There are few ways in which this is possible in most cases. However, using ink cartridge refills is a great way to be able to accomplish both things at once. When you are doing this, you are finding that you are able to do a great service to yourself. The only question that most have is where they can go for refills.

The easiest place to go to get your ink cartridge refilled is at the retailer where you purchased the thing in the first place. Office supply stores and places like this are often going to have the option to refill your cartridge for you. It is something that they provide at a cost of course, but you are going to save some money over buying a brand new cartridge. You are also going to save the earth from having just another cartridge thrown into a landfill somewhere. It is a win-win situation in this way. Make sure that you are hunting down the retailer chain where you purchased the item from in the first place. It is surprising to find how easy it is to do good in this way.

Choosing the Right Ink Cartridge For Your Printer.

Nothing is more frustrating when you are printing important information from your printer and you run out of ink. It may be that you have had warnings, but you have ignored them, in the hopes that you will get just a few more copies before you have to insert another ink cartridge.

There are so many brands and types of printers on the market today. Not only are more printers being introduced every day, but the ink cartridges that go with them are changing as well, and the older printer you have will not be compatible.

When you buy your new printer there will be information and instructions as to what kind of ink cartridges the printer will use and how to remove and insert the new printer. Always keep the information on the correct cartridge in a place you will remember. You can always remove the empty ink cartridge to get the information for a replacement.

When you go online, or to a supply store, take the cartridge information with you, or write it down on a piece of paper. If you know the brand name or model number of your printer, the new ink cartridges will give information as to what printers the cartridges are for.

Companies are constantly doing more to encourage consumers to go green. This includes manufacturers and vendors of ink cartridges.

Consumers looking for ink cartridges at a reasonable price can shop online for remanufactured cartridges, with companies such as Inkjet Superstore, 123 Inkjets, and Precision Roller. In most cases, remanufactured cartridges cost approximately 30 less than new cartridges, from stores such as Staples, Office Max and Office Depot. I compared prices for my printer, and found remanufactured cartridges for just over half the price of a new one.

Once you have purchased your cartridge, how do you install it? For those of you who may need assistance, there are several websites available, such as youtube.com and ehow.com, which will take you step-by-step through the installation process.

So, what can you do with your used cartridge? If you are looking for an extra incentive to recycle, you can return ink cartridges for cash. Staples offers Staples Rewards, which will pay 3 per cartridge up to 10 a month. Office Max offers Max Perks, which also pays 3 per cartridge, but will allow 20 returns per month. Office Depot also offers Recycling Rewards, at 2 per cartridge, up to 20 per month.

Schools also use these recycling programs as fundraisers, which helps them raise money, while teaching kids about the importance of recycling.
